Hanging large prints

Large prints can be very expensive to mount or frame, which is fine if sales are the main objective, but inhibitive for preview shows. An easy way of hanging big prints for an ad-hoc or last minute event is to use bulldog clips.

Big shiny metal bulldog clips are available in boxes of 12 from any large stationer. The clips here are 3″ wide, and four were used on each print a metre square. The top two clips were hung on 2″ panel pins, and the bottom two took the weight and kept the prints flat on the wall.

Holes were punched in some simple business cards and hung in three sets on yet more panel pins at each end of the installation. It worked well, was easy to transport with the prints rolled lightly in a home made tube of lightweight card, and easy to take down again when the show was over.

The Hera Festival at the weekend was a great success, and we’re looking forward to a lot more interesting collaborations in coming months. There are a whole lot of photographs to share, but my FTP is b0rked at the moment, so we will just have to wait until the lovely Josh has time to tinker with his server.
